Jorge Carlos’ research interests are in biogeography, plant taxonomy, the study of vegetation types, and the regional history of botanical science. He has a focus on rare, endemic, and poorly known species. He is interested in the spreading of botanical knowledge to the general public, and the use of native plants in gardening and landscaping. His geographical scope is the Yucatan Peninsula, Puerto Rico, and the Antilles in general.
His activities include: 1) publishing articles in journals and books, 2) writing educational notes on botanical and miscellaneous scientific topics, 3) preparing didactic materials for educators and students, 4) texts editing, 5) developing or collaborating in projects for academic and private sectors, 5) giving talks for groups of all academic levels, and 6) conducting workshops on native plants. His research and findings have been featured in newspapers, radio and TV programs, both in Puerto Rico and the Yucatan. |
