Coastal Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay Habitat Restoration
A collaborative project funded by the North American Wetland Conservation Act U.S. Small Grant from the US Fish and Wildlife Service Division of Bird Habitat Conservation.

IRC and partners are restoring migratory bird habitat along Biscayne Bay in Miami Dade County. Restoration activities necessary to provide excellent migratory bird habitat include:
- Eradication of non-native invasive species
- Prescribed burning
- Planting native plants
- Installing nesting bird boxes
This habitat restoration is part of a U.S. Small Grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Division of Bird Habitat in 2013 to achieve goals outlined in the North American Wetlands Conservation Act of 1989.

Benefits of the Habitat Restoration:
Restoration of this area will provide high quality habitat for over 101 species of migratory birds. As a result it is expected that more migratory birds will be attracted to this habitat which will also help bolster bird population numbers. The actions necessary to restore habitat suitable for use by these species of birds will have additional ecological benefits including the following.
- Restore important and threatened coastal and Pine Rockland habitat.
- Restore habitat for many endangered and threatened plant species.
- Provide control for several species of invasive exotic pest plant species.
- Provide opportunities for community involvement and education.
- Create a more resilient coastal system in the face of Sea Level Rise and Climate Change.
