An endemic tree scattered in the mountains of Puerto Rico, from low to middle elevations. Major geographic regions following Axelrod (2011): Sierra de Luquillo, Sierra de Cayey, Eastern Cordillera (Cerro La Peña), Western Cordillera (Maricao State Forest, Susúa State Forest). Botanically unique areas following Axelrod (2011): Cerro La Peña.
