Historia y distribución/History and distribution: A slightly woody rare shrub, usually clambering, at low to high elevations. Major geographic regions following Axelrod (2011): Southeastern Foothills, Sierra de Cayey, Eastern Cordillera (Cerro La Peña, La Torrecilla), Central Cordillera, Western Cordillera, Northern Limestone Hills (Ciales). Botanically unique areas following Axelrod (2011): Las Tetas de Cayey, Cerro La Peña, La Torrecilla, Cerro Las Mesas. Common in forests and pastures of the Cordillera Central and the zone of mogotes (Acevedo-Rodríguez 2005).

Notas de Conservación/Conservation Notes: Fue listada por primera vez como una especie rara en Puerto Rico por Woodbury et al. (1975), quienes la clasificaron como una especie rara endémica de Puerto Rico (especie No. 130). Sin embargo, nunca fue listada como Elemento Crítico por el DRNA. Fue listada como una especie de interés global para la conservación por el Center for Plant Conservation (1992), pero no fue clasificada como en riesgo de extinción debido a datos insuficientes. Fue incluida como una especie conocida de tres o menos localidades en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes por Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996), pero no como una especie limitada a una sola localidad por Figueroa Colon (1996). Miller et al. (2012b) le dieron un rango global provisional de De Interés Menor usando los criterios de la Lista Roja de la IUCN, basado en menos de 10 localidades y estar ampliamente distribuida entre las regiones montañosas.

This was first listed as a rare species in Puerto Rico by Woodbury et al. (1975), who classified it as a rare species endemic to Puerto Rico (species No. 130). However, it was never listed as a Critical Element by DNER. It was included as a species of global conservation concern by the Center for Plant Conservation (1992), but it was not ranked as being at risk of extinction due to insufficient data. It was included as a species known from three or fewer locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996), but not as a species known from a single locality by Figueroa Colon (1996). Miller et al. (2012b) gave it a provisional global rank of Least Concern using the IUCN Red List criteria, based on more than 10 locations and being widely distributed among montane regions.
