Fue incluida como una especie conocida de tres o menos localidades en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes por Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) y como una especie limitada a una sola localidad por Figueroa Colon (1996). Miller et al. (2012b) le dieron a la especie Lyonia truncata un rango global provisional como Vulnerable usando los criterios de la Lista Roja de la IUCN, basado en menos de 10 localidades. This was listed as a Critical Element by DNER in 1988, 1999 and 2007, and it was listed as Endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1993 under the Endangered Species Act. It was included as a species known from three or fewer locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Figueroa Colon & Woodbury (1996) and as a species limited to a single locality by Figueroa Colon (1996). Miller et al. (2012b) gave the species Lyonia truncata a provisional global rank of Vulnerable using the IUCN Red List criteria, based on fewer than 10 locations.
