Distribución nativa/Native range: Nativa de México, Centroamérica, Sudamérica y los trópicos del Viejo Mundo; reportada para las Antillas Mayores (Puerto Rico, La Española) por George Proctor (1989) y otros. Las citas en TROPICOS de Cuba y Jamaica basadas en Mickel & Smith (2004) son erróneas (como "Gr Ant"). /
Native to Mexico, Central America, South America and the Old World tropics; reported for the Greater Antilles (Puerto Rico, Hispaniola) by Proctor (1989) and others. Citations in TROPICOS for Cuba and Jamaica based on Mickel & Smith (2004) are in error – that reference merely stated “Gr Ant”.

Notas/Notes: As described by Proctor, this species is a geophyte, that is, a species that persists in a dormant state underground except when growth conditions are favorable.

Presencia/Occurence: Reportado/Reported.

Historia y distribución/History and distribution: An unverified report. Collected by Bertero according to Urban (Maxon 1926, p. 485; also Liogier & Martorell 1982, Proctor 1989, Liogier & Martorell 2000, Axelrod 2011). Treated as a doubtful occurrence by Axelrod. Proctor suggested that it be searched for in dry, savanna-like areas toward the southwestern part of the island just after periods of rain, or on cliffs. Liogier & Martorell (2000) used that to describe its habitat in Puerto Rico, but that was not Proctor’s assertion.
