Origen/Origin: No nativo, solo cultivado/Not native, cultivated only.

Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Un arbusto cultivado ampliamente distribuido en Puerto Rico en elevaciones bajas; quizá naturalizado pero tratado como “plantado y persistente” por Axelrod (2011). Principales regiones geográficas conforme a Axelrod (2011): Llanuras Costeras del Sur, Costa Oriental, Cordillera Oriental, Cordillera Occidental, Llanuras Costeras del Norte. Áreas botánicamente únicas conforme a Axelrod (2011): ninguna. Algunos ejemplares de herbario están claramente marcados como “cultivado” mientras que otros son ambiguos en cuanto a si las plantas eran persistentes después del cultivo o naturalizadas (ver especímenes en Herbario UPRRP Database Project).

A cultivated shrub widespread in Puerto Rico at low elevations; perhaps naturalized but treated as “planted and persistent” by Axelrod (2011) and “cultivated” by the Flora of the West Indies (Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong 2015). Major geographic regions following Axelrod (2011): Southern Coastal Lowlands, Eastern Coast, Eastern Cordillera, Western Cordillera, Northern Coastal Lowlands. Botanically unique areas following Axelrod (2011): none. Some herbarium specimens are clearly marked “cultivated” while others are ambiguous as to whether the plants were persisting from cultivation or naturalized (see specimens in Herbario UPRRP Database Project).
