Description:
A medium-sized bird measuring up to 12 inches in length. Rufous back and tail, two blck stripes on the face, and a short, curved bill .
Range:
Breeds and winters in North America, Central America, South America, and the West Indies.
Habitat(s):
Open areas such as meadows, grasslands, deserts, parks, farmlands, and urban and suburban areas.
Reproduction:
1 to 7 white-yellwo eggs are laid in a tree cavity, bird box, or building.
Natural History:
This species preys mainly on House Sparrows (Passer domesticus).
Food:
This species feeds on large insects, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds.
Comments:
Can be found in South Florida year round.
