Description: High-climbing vine, deciduous in north Florida. Soft foliage and bright reddish-orange trumpet shaped flowers. Can grow well even under harsh conditions.
Dimensions: Vine with stems up to 30 feet in length.
Growth Rate: Fast.
Range:
Widespread in North America south to Palm Beach and Collier counties, but rare and scattered in the southernmost parts of its range; naturalized in Hispaniola.

Habitats: Floodplain forests and disturbed sites.
Soils: Moist, well-drained sandy or limestone soils, with humusy top layer.
Nutritional Requirements: Moderate; can grow in nutrient poor soils, but needs some organic content to thrive.
Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.
Salt Wind Tolerance: Moderate; grows near salt water, but is protected from direct salt spray by other vegetation.
Drought Tolerance: High; does not require any supplemental water once established.
Light Requirements: Full sun to light shade.
Flower Color: Reddish.
Flower Characteristics: Showy.
Flowering Season: Summer.
Fruit: Dry pods with winged seeds
Wildlife and Ecology: Provides nectar for birds.
