Description: Low, clump-forming perennial grass. Leaf blades can be smooth or densely haired.
Dimensions: Typically 1 foot in height, usually as broad as tall.
Range:
Eastern United States south to Miami-Dade and Collier counties; the West Indies, Mexico and Central America.

Habitats: Moist to dry hammocks and flatwoods
Soils: Moist to dry, well-drained, sandy, limestone, or organic soils, with or without humusy top layer.
Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.
Salt Wind Tolerance: Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate; generally requires moist soils, but tolerant of short periods of drought once established.
Light Requirements: Full sun to light shade.
Flower Color: Green inflorescence.
Flower Characteristics: Semi-showy.
Flowering Season: Spring to fall.
