General Landscape Uses: Primarly recommended for natural landscapes and habitat restorations. Also wildflower gardens.

Availability: Rarely grown by native plant nurseries.

Description: Medium herbaceous shrub-like wildflower.

Dimensions: Typically 1-3 feet in height. Is usually as broad as tall.

Growth Rate: Fast.

Range: Widespread in eastern North America south to northeastern Miami-Dade and Collier counties.

Habitats: Pinelands and open disturbed sites.

Soils: Moist to wet, moderately well-drained sandy soils, without humus.

Nutritional Requirements: Low; it grows in nutrient poor soils.

Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate flooding by salt or brackish water.

Salt Wind Tolerance: Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.

Drought Tolerance: Low; requires moist to wet soils and is intolerant of long periods of drought.

Light Requirements: Full sun.

Flower Color: Yellow.

Flower Characteristics: Showy inflorescence.

Flowering Season: Summer-fall.

Fruit: Inconspicuous achene.

Horticultural Notes: Can be grown from seed.

Comments: A very attractive wildflower.
