General Landscape Uses: Specimen.

Availability: Rarely grown by native plant nurseries.

Description: Evergreen shrub or small tree to 40 feet tall with oblong leaflets 2 inches long. Smooth, reddish gray bark.

Dimensions: Up to 40 feet in height. Slightly taller than broad.

Growth Rate: Slow.

Range: Endemic to Florida, Monroe and Dade counties.

Habitats: Tropical pinelands and hammocks.

Soils: Moist, well-drained limestone soils, with humusy top layer.

Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.

Salt Wind Tolerance: Moderate; grows near salt water, but is protected from direct salt spray by other vegetation.

Drought Tolerance: High; does not require any supplemental water once established.

Light Requirements: Full sun to light shade.

Flower Color: White.

Flower Characteristics: Inconspicuous.

Flowering Season: Spring-summer.

Wildlife and Ecology: Provides significant food and cover for wildlife.
