General Landscape Uses: Recommended only for controlled ecological restoration projects.

Ecological Restoration Notes: The gene pool of this species has been contaminted through hybridization with the exotic Lantana camara. Pure populations could theoretically be restored on barrier islands within its historical range.

Availability: Available at native plant nurseries in central Florida. Available in Lake Worth at Amelia's SmartyPlants (561-540-6296).

Description: Medium shrub.

Dimensions: 3-5 feet.

Growth Rate: Moderate.

Range: East Coast of peninsular Florida south to Key Biscayne in Miami-Dade County.

Habitats: Coastal uplands.

Soils: Moist, well-drained sandy soils, without humus.

Nutritional Requirements: Low; it grows in nutrient poor soils.

Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.

Salt Wind Tolerance: High; can tolerate moderate amounts of salt wind without significant injury.

Drought Tolerance: High; does not require any supplemental water once established.

Light Requirements: Full sun.

Flower Color: Yellow.

Flower Characteristics: Showy.

Flowering Season: All year.

Fruit: Drupe.

Wildlife and Ecology: Nectar plant for butterflies and moths; provides food for birds.

Horticultural Notes: Can be grown from seed, but these may be genetically contaminated.
