Description: Clump-forming perennial wildflower 1-3 feet tall with 1-4 inch leaves and purple to rarely white flowers in clusters.
Dimensions: Typically 1-3 feet in height, as broad as tall.
Growth Rate: Moderate.
Range:
Central and southern United States south to the panhandle from Escambia to Gadsden and Liberty counties.

Habitats: Bluff and floodplain forests.
Soils: Moist to wet, well-drained sandy or limestone soils, with humusy top layer.
Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.
Salt Wind Tolerance: Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate; generally requires moist soils, but tolerant of short periods of drought once established.
Flower Color: Purple or rarely white.
Flower Characteristics: Showy.
Flowering Season: Spring.
Wildlife and Ecology: Attracts pollinators.
