Description: High climbing vine or medium shrub. Leaves about 4-6 inches long.

Dimensions: N/A; a vine with stems to 20 feet or more in length.

Growth Rate: Moderate.

Range: Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier and Hendry counties; West Indies, Mexico, Central America and South America. In Broward County, know only from Water Conservation Area 3A.

Habitats: Hammocks and swamps.

Soils: Moist, well-drained limestone or organic soils, with humusy top layer.

Nutritional Requirements: Moderate; can grow in nutrient poor soils, but needs some organic content to thrive.

Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate flooding by salt or brackish water.

Salt Wind Tolerance: Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.

Drought Tolerance: Moderate; generally requires moist soils, but tolerant of short periods of drought once established.

Light Requirements: Light shade to full sun.

Flower Color: White.

Flower Characteristics: Inconspicuous.

Flowering Season: All year.

Fruit: Round white drupe.

Wildlife and Ecology: Nectar plant for cassius blue (Leptotes cassius), lyside sulphur (Kricogonia lyside) and southern dogface (Zerene cesonia).

Comments: It is listed as endangered by the state of Florida.
