Availability: Rarely grown by native plant nurseries.

Description: Submerged aquatic herb.

Dimensions: N/A; submerged or floating aquatic.

Growth Rate: Moderate.

Range: Widespread in North America south to Miami-Dade and Collier counties; Cuba.

Habitats: Freshwater streams and sloughs in swamps.

Soils: Permanantly inundated soils.

Nutritional Requirements: Low; it grows in nutrient poor soils.

Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate flooding by salt or brackish water.

Salt Wind Tolerance: Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.

Drought Tolerance: Low; requires moist to wet soils and is intolerant of long periods of drought.

Light Requirements: Full sun to light shade.

Flower Color: Greenish.

Flower Characteristics: Inconspicuous.

Flowering Season: All year.

Fruit: Inconspicuous capsule.
