General Landscape Uses: Primarily recommended for natural landscapes and habitat restorations.

Availability: Grown by enthusiasts.

Description: High climbing woody vine.

Dimensions: N/A; vine with stems to 20 feet or more in length.

Growth Rate: Moderate.

Range: Maryland and Southeastern United States south to Miami-Dade County and the Monroe County mainland.

Habitats: Moist forests and pinelands.

Soils: Moist, well-drained sandy or limestone soils, with humusy top layer.

Nutritional Requirements: Moderate; can grow in nutrient poor soils, but needs some organic content to thrive.

Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate flooding by salt or brackish water.

Salt Wind Tolerance: Low; salt wind may burn the leaves.

Drought Tolerance: Moderate; generally requires moist soils, but tolerant of short periods of drought once established.

Light Requirements: Full sun to light shade.

Flower Color: Greenish.

Flower Characteristics: Inconspicuous.

Flowering Season: Spring-summer.

Fruit: Berry. Edible.

Wildlife and Ecology: Animals eat the berries.

Horticultural Notes: Can be grown from de-pulped seed, and from cuttings with difficulty.
